The vertical measurement system ensures accurate leg length correction following hip replacement surgery

The vertical measurement system is used when performing hip replacement surgery. The tools are used to decrease the margin of error and ensure accurate leg length correction. The IP is the property of a South African company, Peninsula Orthopedic.
In total Hip Arthroplasty accurate leg length correction is imperative for a good clinical outcome. This is not always obtained, as can be attested by the fact that leg length discrepancy remains a common reason for litigation in the USA.
At VMS, we believe that with accurate intra-operative measurements and the utilization of a leg lengthening formula, unexpected post-operative leg length discrepancy can be prevented. The basic principle being that the difference in vertical height, between what is removed and what is inserted, determines the new leg length. In order to measure this vertical height we have developed a novel measuring device and calculation formula - The Vertical Measurement System (VMS).
The leg length correction is determined by the difference in the vertical plane between what is implanted and what is removed.
